Divock Origi, German Bundesliga, Leagues, Liverpool, Story, VfL Wolfsburg

Bayern are four points away from clinching another Bundesliga title, after Robert Lewandowski’s hat trick sparked a 6-0 pasting of Hamburg.
After Joshua Kimmich put pen to paper on a new contract at Bayern, Jupp Heynckes feels the 23-year-old can become a club icon like Philipp Lahm.

On-loan Liverpool striker Divock Origi was substituted just 42 minutes into Wolfsburg’s 3-0 defeat to Hoffenheim at the weekend, raising fresh doubts over his future.

Origi, 22, joined Wolfsburg on loan at the start of the season and the Bundesliga side have the option to make the deal permanent. But with the Belgium international scoring just five times so far, the club’s interest in signing him has waned.

On Saturday, after just 15 touches of the ball, Origi was subbed off and was heavily criticised by under-fire sporting director Olaf Rebbe.

Divock Origi has scored five goals in 27 appearances at Wolfsbug since he joined the club in August 2017.

“We’ll discuss behind closed doors what the reason for [his performance] was,” Rebbe told reporters after the match.

“This was not a good match from Divock, you need to make that clear. We need to analyse how those 42 minutes could happen. This was not what we agreed upon during the week.”

Despite coach Bruno Labbadia saying he made the substitution “independent of the person,” local paper Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reported that Origi’s 23rd league match for Wolfsburg might have been his last.

Wolfsburg, who successfully avoided the drop in the relegation playoffs against Braunschweig last season, are 15th in Bundesliga, level on points with Mainz in the relegation/promotion playoff place.
