Steve Nicol explains why the time is right for Liverpool to sell Philippe Coutinho if Barcelona put up the right offer.

Kit manufacturer Nike has advertised a Barcelona shirt with the name of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho on it.

The advertisement, on the company’s official website, said Coutinho was “ready to light up Camp Nou” and added: “Get your 2017-2018 FC Barcelona kit with the Magician’s name on it.” It has since been deleted.

In addition to manufacturing Barcelona’s kit, Nike also sponsor Coutinho, who wears Nike-made boots.

Barcelona failed in their attempts to sign Brazil international Coutinho in a summer transfer saga.

Coutinho handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move, but Liverpool rejected three major offers from the Liga giants.

After missing the first six games of this season Coutinho has been in fine form for Liverpool, but speculation has suggested that he could yet move to Barca in the January transfer window.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: “I do not know how the future is going to be.”

ESPN FC has contacted Nike and Barcelona to request comment.
